When you Fall in Love

While I enjoy all things 'makeup',  when I put the stuff on, I do so with purpose - and a bit of vengeance: it must stay all day with very, very little touch-up required; none, preferably.  I search always for that perfect foundation - one which will offer a lasting, flawless finish.  Enter 'Kat Von D lock-it tattoo foundation' - 1fl oz of Heaven for this makeup artist.  'Full Coverage, 24-hr Wear, Transfer Resistant, Matte Finish, Fragrance and Oil Free.'  The creamy formula is thicker than a liquid foundation, but not concealer-thick, and comes in a clear pump-bottle, which is decorated with black flowers at the top and bottom; the entire middle section of the container is clear, so the shade of the foundation may be seen through the plastic.  I purchased this foundation for $34 at Sephora in the beginning of May, and have used one/two pumps every day since and am still not half-way through the product.  I apply this foundation with either a Beauty Blender or brush, and love - ahem, LUHV -  the results.  This foundation does not cause me to break out, and offers full coverage that lasts; will absolutely purchase again.

Makeup - Does it ALWAYS have to be expensive?!

For the Money:

We love, love, love to use MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish powders as a highlight - the powders are 'luxurious, velvet-soft, with high-frost metallic finish...add as highlights to cheeks, or an overall ultra-deluxe polish to the face.'  The domed compacts of pressed, baked-esque powder can be purchased for $30 each, and some of our favorite colors include:

Limited Edition "Adored" - a 'coral with light beige pearl.'

"Lightscapade" is a 'soft, candlelit beige with multidimensional shimmer.'

"Soft and Gentle" offers a gorgeous 'gilded peach bronze' shine.

Any of the Mineralize Skinfinishes may be used as a highlighter, and stay put all day.  The only two drawbacks that we've noticed with this product are the price, and the soft texture of the pressed powder; when swirling a brush through the product, there is much fallout, because the mineral powder is quite soft.  This just means things can get a bit messy, but for us, the beautiful color payoff is worth a bit of fairy dust on the vanity.

For...HOW much (?!):

(Trumpet blast!) Enter NYX Loose Pearl Shadow, or Ultra Pearl Mania.  These 'ultra-shimmering, loose shadow powders can be used on eyes and cheeks...finely-milled mineral eye shadows are high-impact, long-lasting—and a little addictive.'  We agree!!!!  (insert excited little-girl screams!!!!!) These little beauties are $3 each (Ulta), are amazingly pigmented, and have incredible staying-power.  Their shine-payoff is more extreme than the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish, so this powder is definitely for those who like their highlight to really stand out.  The only drawback to this product that we've noticed is, similar to the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish, the mess - the Loose Pearl Shadows come in a small plastic bottle with a black screw-top, so the product must be dumped out in order to be used.  But again, the effectiveness, price, and colors offered (30 shades) require us to be more than lenient in our critique of the packaging.

Fall 2013 Makeup Trends

Designers from Michael Kors and Donna Karan, to Marc by Marc Jacobs chose delicate, uncomplicated makeup looks this season, which complimented their Fall 2013 clothing designs, and offers good news for those of us who like to be fashion-forward, but prefer to not look like we are walking the runway while grocery shopping.

Cat Eyeliner was huge, of course, but many makeup artists liberated the "Cat Liner" idea by using softer lines, delicate colors, and also by moving the liner farther up on the eyelid - similar to a "cut crease" placement.

Orange shadows provided a very sultry, chic look this season.  Whether in more neutral tones to help enhance the eye-shape, or in shimmering copper to provide a simple fall glow, for the Fall 2013 season, orange IS the new black.

Grey and Plum shadows were also seen - whether swept all over the lid from lashes to brows or smudged under the lower lash line, both the hues and the simplistic application techniques guarantee chic-style for moms and businesswomen alike.

Lips of choice for Fall 2013 are Red and Wine.  The reds can be either matte or glossy - there were designers using both textures.  The Wine Lips, however were mostly matte, with more of a stained look.

The skin this season is dewey - flawless, as always, and beautifully dewey in texture.

Braid Craze

I have always loved braids! Growing up a French braid was a permanent fixture on my head.  Since becoming a hair artist, I have loved trying all different types of braids on my clients, so I am thrilled they are so popular these days!

For all of you that like braids here are some of my favorites.  For special occasions try a waterfall braid cascading into soft curls.

Are you getting married?  A super pretty updo for your special day could be a French braid wrapping down your head in a S pattern ending in a flower bun.

Add a braid for a cute put together look for the beach or girls night out!  Whatever you do, just have fun with it!  If you need some more braid inspiration, check out our pinterest board on braids here...http://pinterest.com/hollyjn/braids/

Happy Braiding!
